The "ASTYGRAPHIA / URBANOGRAPHY. City life in the 1950s-1970s" exhibition, which follows three decades of rapid transformation in postwar Greece, is being hosted from 21 June 2023 to 3 March 2024 in the Periodic Exhibition Hall of the Greek National Gallery’s central building.

Focusing on urbanization and the way people participate or resist the new conditions dictated by their ever-changing environment, the exhibition traces the relationship between human and urban environments. Visual arts – painting, sculpture, printmaking, installations, photography, drawings and posters – are brought into conversation with excerpts from popular Greek cinema, films of critical realism and eccentric narratives.

More than 200 works of art (half from the Collection of the National Gallery and the rest on loan from public and private collections – are exhibited in seven sections entitled Scenography, Nostalgia, Yapi, Close-up, Theatricality, Dreams & Conflicts and Materialities. The exhibition also includes extracts from 17 feature films and 4 full-length short films.
