The Ballet of the Greek National Opera, choreographed by the distinguished Slovenian choreographer Edward Klug, will present a new version of the classic work Coppélia, from 11 to 18 May 2024, at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the SNFCC.

In the plot, Swanhilda is about to be married to Franz but begins to doubt her fiancé’s love when he turns his attentions to the mysterious Coppélia. Swanhilda discovers – quite by chance – that the exquisitely beautiful Coppélia is in fact just a mechanical doll and comes up with a plan to win back Franz’s heart.

This classical ballet by Delibes is based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann story “Der Sandmann” (“The Sandman”), except that here, the borderline terrifying presence of a living doll is set within an ideal world.
