Description
Built at an altitude of seven hundred meters near the N. Plastira lake, the village of Mesenikolas is one of the most beautiful and historical villages of the Karditsa prefecture where the inhabitants of the village are mainly engaged in viticulture. The French traveler named Nicolas discovered hundreds of years ago - specifically in 1455 - a local variety of black grape in the region. A connoisseur of viticulture and a lover of the village, he took care of and highlighted the variety and although he tried to bring it to his country, he failed to make it thrive there. Due to the microclimate of Mesenicola, she survived only in this particular village and nowhere else.
First we will visit the Wine and Vine museum. We will guide you through the history of the wine and the place. we will teach you the secrets of the art of wine and tsipouro and in the tasting room we will taste traditional Petimezi. This dark thick elixir has been sweetening the human palate for many years and is based on various grape varieties. The ancient Greeks had created a sort of rating scale for must that differentiated sweetness by how much it had boiled and thickened.
Then we will visit the Winery of Giorgos Karamitros in Mesenikolas and take the aroma and taste of the local wine with us. In the vineyards of the village, the local variety "MAVRO MESENIKOLA" is cultivated, which together with the varieties "SIRACH" and "KARINIAN" gives the fine wine of superior quality designation of origin. A tour of the vineyards and the cellar of the Winery with its French oak barrels will convince you. The wine's journey that begins in the vineyard does not end when it reaches the glass. If one closes one's eyes and allows the images carried by its taste and aroma to be born, one will understand that the journey continues.
