In the hands of Leonidas Kavakos and Yuja Wang, two of the greatest soloists of our time, three exciting sonatas find their absolute justification in November, at the Athens Concert Hall.
In a letter to Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann had confessed that the music from the third movement of the Violin Sonata No. 1 was what she wanted to accompany her on her passage to eternity. Her husband Robert Schumann wrote his own Violin Sonata No. 2 shortly before his mental breakdown, and the work as a whole does indeed reflect in an absurd way the conflicting emotions that overwhelmed him.
Czech composer Leo Janacek wrote his unique Violin Sonata during the turbulent years of World War I, and as in all his music, in this work enigmatic fragments of motifs are juxtaposed with lyrical melodies to create an unparalleled sonic universe.
Three well-known violin sonatas by the acclaimed soloists Leonidas Kavakos and Yuja Wang, at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall.
