For a series of limited performances, the Greek National Opera will be presenting the ballet Carmen (choreographed by Johan Inger and with music by Rodion Shchedrin and Georges Bizet) at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, in Athens, in February 2024.

The distinguished dancer and choreographer Johan Inger, with his long and highly successful career at the Nederlands Dans Theater, as well as other important European dance companies, has achieved great acclaim for his version of Carmen, created for the Spanish National Ballet.
Inger took the risk of creating a new choreography for Bizet's heroine, considered the symbol of love and freedom, aiming for a different reading of the famous story.

He has focused on the theme of violence, but through the eyes of a child. From this perspective, Johan Inger urges viewers to follow the action of the story through the filter of innocence.
