An outdoor sound installation by Dimitris Georgakopoulos and Coti K., a sculpture that functions as a wind harp. The project is part of the Ministry of Culture’s “All of Greece, One Culture 2023" programme, which this year is dedicated to the environment.

Description

The title of the work takes its name inspired by the myth of Icarus. The two elements of the myth that are the starting point for conceiving the idea of the work are those of arrogance and fall.

The installation consists of two rectangular surfaces six metres long by three metres high, consisting of one hundred three-metre wooden planks placed horizontally and parallel to each other at a short distance apart. These surfaces converge leaving a narrow passage between them. The air enters them, is compressed, and is forced out through a series of strings about two metres long. The resulting sound has an eerie yet mesmerizing character.

The work consciously chooses not to make use of modern technology and relies on its relationship with nature, asking the question to what extent we can create works without harming the environment.
