Ancient Theater of Demetrias

Volos, Thessalia

The Ancient Theatre of Demetrias hosts The Black Sheep – a theatrical performance inspired by the iconic short story by Italo Calvino – on 22 & 23 July 2026, as part of All of Greece, One Culture 2026.

It is a performance that turns dark allegory into a contemporary theatrical experience packed with farce, black humour and biting social satire – a polyphonic world of bodies, sounds and constant transformation that shines a light on a society where corruption feels natural and honesty almost dangerous.

In a country where everyone steals to survive, the arrival of one honest man is enough to shatter the balance. The honest man doesn't become a hero – he becomes a threat to the system. With a fast pace, live on-stage music and a continuous shift between roles and narration, the performance poses an urgent question: when inhumanity becomes the norm, who still dares to remain human?

A harsh, timely fable about the cost of dignity – and the power of those who refuse to conform.

All of Greece, One Culture is the landmark initiative of Greece's Ministry of Culture, now in its seventh year, bringing performances to archaeological sites, monuments and museums across the country.
