The Athens Epidaurus Festival is back for its 71st year, running from 1 June to 29 August with a packed programme of world-class performances.

This year's edition brings theatre, concerts, dance and site-specific works to iconic venues across Epidaurus and Athens, alongside a handful of selected locations throughout Attica.

As Greece's foremost cultural institution and one of the oldest festivals in Europe, the Athens Epidaurus Festival has built an impressive track record – hosting acclaimed music, dance and theatre artists from around the world, partnering with major Greek and international organisations, and drawing thousands of visitors from across the globe every year.
 

Highlights of the 2026 programme include:
 

Odeon of Herodes Atticus

  • Euripides' Hecuba – In the Shadow of the State, directed by Stathis Livathinos
  • Mahler's Symphony No. 8, performed by the Athens State Orchestra under Polish conductor Michał Nesterowicz
  • John Legend live, as part of his “An Evening of Songs & Stories” tour
     

Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

  • Cherubini's Medea, by the Greek National Opera – conducted by Jacques Lacombe, directed by Panagis Pagoulatos
  • Aeschylus' The Persians, directed by Christos Theodoridis
  • Euripides' The Bacchae, with The Tiger Lillies, staged by Bulgaria's Ivan Vazov National Theatre – directed by Javor Gardev
  • Euripides' Alcestis, by the National Theatre of Greece – directed by Dimitris Karantzas
  • Antigone, inspired by the work of Sophocles, directed by Alan Lucien Øyen
  • Aristophanes' Lysistrata, by the National Theatre of Northern Greece – directed by Asterios Peltekis
