The Cultural Conference Centre of Heraklion participates in the commemoration of the recently deceased composer, the internationally renowned, Vangelis Papathanasiou, with a musical tribute signed by Zorzes Katris.
As a pioneer of electronic sound, Vangelis Papathanasiou created top-notch groundbreaking works that were honored in his lifetime, and his compositions will continue to captivate and inspire future generations of listeners and artists. Characteristic of his work are the extremely diverse sources of inspiration, from films to NASA space missions and top sporting events such as the 2004 Olympic Games or the 2002 FIFA World Cup, as documentaries on the oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the 1968 Paris riots and wildlife, and even the ERT TV news bulletin, for which he wrote the music score.
Through this tribute, Georges Catrice, a distinguished composer of symphonic music specialising in composing music for film and theatre, takes us into the electronic, cinematic and orchestral musical world of Vangelis Papathanasiou. With an ensemble of electronic instruments and synthesizers he will present works from well-known films such as Chariots of Fire, Conquest of Paradise, Blade Runner, Alexander, Bounty.
