The Eptapyrgion Festival returns from 21 June to 26 July 2025, transforming one of Thessaloniki’s most evocative historical landmarks into a stage for music, theatre, poetry and cultural dialogue.
Held in the courtyard of the Eptapyrgio – also known as the Yedi Kule – the festival makes full use of this atmospheric space within the city’s Byzantine and Ottoman fortress complex. Once a military stronghold and later a notorious prison, the Eptapyrgio sits on the northern edge of the old city walls and has become a powerful symbol of Thessaloniki’s layered history.
Under the artistic direction of Athanasios Kolalas, the 2025 edition brings together concerts, theatrical performances, tributes, poetry evenings and other cultural events, continuing its mission to promote artistic expression and regional creativity. The programme includes both established and emerging Greek artists and aims to encourage audiences to reimagine the role of heritage sites in contemporary life.
More than just a summer festival, Eptapyrgion aspires to become a permanent fixture in northern Greece’s cultural calendar, contributing to Thessaloniki’s growing reputation as a destination rich in arts and heritage.
