Fifty years after the Greek National Opera’s legendary performance of Anna Bolena, Donizetti’s masterpiece returns to the stage in a new production directed by Themeli Glynatsis, from 26 March to 19 April 2026 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens.
Anna Bolena is one of Gaetano Donizetti’s most celebrated operas and his first international success, first performed in Milan in 1830 before quickly gaining worldwide acclaim.
A dramatic tale of love, power and betrayal, it combines inspired music and poetry to reveal the inner conflicts of its heroine, Queen Anne Boleyn. Caught between passion and politics, she transforms from a woman in love into a tragic figure of fate.
