The Dancers of the North present the new performance "Commedia Divina" choreographed and directed by Tatiana Papadopoulou, where they transcribe Dante's journey to the three liminal destinations Hell - Purgatory - Paradise in the light of climate change. The project is part of the Ministry of Culture’s “All of Greece, One Culture 2023" programme, which this year is dedicated to the environment.
Dante's iconic work of world literature, Dante's Divine Comedy, is a modern environmental allegory. It is a poignant portrayal of man's inextricable relationship with nature. The poet's journey through the three kingdoms of the dead of the Catholic worldview includes 'travelogue' descriptions of the world of the dead. Modern communities now feel the environmental pressures and seek a way out, just as the poet seeks a way out. Moving from the overheated Hell to Purgatory, where nature is "normalized," he ends up in Paradise, the ultimate harmonization, the reconnection of man with nature.
