Venue Details

Archaeological site of the Hellenistic City of Florina

Florina, Macedonia

The theatrical performance “Night on Earth”, directed by Alexandros Cohen, takes the form of an agonizing thriller, where within the predetermined time the travellers (with the complicity of the spectators) have to collect as much evidence as they can. The project is part of the Ministry of Culture’s “All of Greece, One Culture 2023" programme, which this year is dedicated to the environment.

Description

A tour guide and her assistants arrive at an unfamiliar ruined place - which, however, is full of hidden traces of earlier "inhabitants". The discovery of records, testimonies piled up on the site (some read, some handed down, some reproduced by machines), reveals the causes that gave rise to the present reality. The performance Night on Earth, directed by Alexandros Cohen, takes the form of an agonizing thriller, where within the predetermined time the travellers (with the complicity of the spectators) have to collect as much evidence as they can.

From the Bible to the Romantics, for two millennia, Man's relationship with Nature has been at the heart of poetic creation. Man is a child of Nature: he cannot exist except on her terms. Quotations from the Bible, William Blake, Samuel Coleridge, Goethe, Goethe, Novalis, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Solomos, Sicilianos - with Byron's great apocalyptic poem "Darkness" as the main focus - are stitched together, interwoven, complementing each other.
