In Ancient Greece, the Sanctuary was an important cult center that played a key role in the religious life of Athenian women, In Ancient Greece, the Sanctuary was an important cult center that played a key role in the religious life of Athenian women. According to a myth, this is the temple where Iphigeneia, daughter of king Agamemnon, was brought by her brother Orestis when they met in Tauris, where she served as a priestess in a local temple of Artemis. Iphigeneia had been transferred to Tauris by the goddess Artemis herself when she saved her from the sacrifice by her father before the war of Troy.
East Attica is also a region with very fertile plains and offers a wide range of gastronomic experiences. Besides wine production, the area has a rich farming tradition producing excellent quality dairy products, such as white and yellow cheeses made with fresh goat and sheep milk, velvet yogurt, and flavorful rice pudding. Explore Vravrona during a half-day tour and enjoy a unique cultural and culinary experience!
Itinerary
- This unique experience will start by picking you up from your hotel. Our tour starts with towards the airport and before crossing the vineyards and the fig orchards of Mesogaia we will stop at a well-known family-run dairy shop for brunch. Learn about the history of the family and enjoy a fresh rice pudding and a crispy piece of cheese pie.
- After savoring our brunch, we will cross by the beautiful countryside, full of vines and fig trees and we will make a short stop in a secret spot surrounded by various cultivations and charming chapels.
- You will have the time to stretch in nature and taste “Moustokouloura”, the traditional cookies of the region made with grape must. We will share the recipe and we will talk about all the other products that derive from the grapes such as “Moustalevria” a grape must pudding made with “Petimezi” a molasses syrup rich in various nutritional components.
- Our next stop is the Archaeological site of Vravrona located in a green area of natural beauty. You will firstly have the chance to visit the museum that hosts findings from the area with the impressive sculptures of the “She-Bears” among them. Artemis besides being the goddess of nature and hunting was also the protectress of childbirth which is why there were found many sculptures representing young boys and girls.
- After the museum, get lost and found between the remains of the Sanctuary of Artemis , walk around the impressive “Stoa” and gaze at the unique Doric temple built in the early 5th century BC.
