This excursion is the best choice for a short trip to Zagori, getting to know some of the most famous and beautiful places in the area, such as the Vikos gorge from Beloi position, the famous and famous Vradettos staircase, Tsepelovo with its picturesque square, the waterfall of Iliochori “Balta di Stringa”, the Sarakatsani pond with the ponds and routes in unique landscapes and breathtaking views.
Description
1st day
Our excursion starts from Tsepelovo. Meet and settle at a local guesthouse. A full day awaits ahead. Our destination is the village of Iliohori in a beautiful route. After passing the village of Skamneli, the landscape changes completely. In a wonderful green route, we continue for about an hour, until “Gyftokambos” and “Sarakatsaniki Stani”, a unique open-air museum with konakia, representing the old way of life of the Sarakatsani herders-nomads. Here, we make a short stop for our tour of the nomads’ huts. Then we get on the electric bikes for about half an hour to the village of Iliohori. Here, we walk 1 km downhill to the village waterfalls, a “hidden paradise”, where you will not be able to resist a dip in its cool turquoise waters. After the necessary snacks and drinks, we climb up to get on our bikes again and depart for our delicious picnic of traditional pies and other home-made local delicacies. After the picnic, we take the road back to Tsepelovo. Arrival in Tsepelovo. Dinner at a local tavern. Overnight.
2nd day
Breakfast at the hotel and we depart for the highest village of Zagori, Vradetto. The climb seems demanding, but, thanks to our electric bikes, we enjoy the literally unique view and favorite of many visitors. We arrive at Vrateto, where we have the opportunity to drink coffee in the village. Then we leave the bikes behind and start an easy hike of half an hour to the best point (Beloi site) where one can see the unique gorge of Vikos, the deepest gorge in the world in terms of length-width-height.After taking the necessary photos and admiring the magnificence of nature, we return to Vradeto for our lunch in the village square. Then, we say goodbye to the village and get ready to walk the historic “Staircase of Vradetos”, with over 1200 steps, the construction of which took about 20 years. On our route, the unique architecture of this stone path will impress us alongside the rich history that hides behind it. We reach the opposite side of Kapesovo, where we get on our bikes again for the last 20 or so minutes to Tsepelovo, where our short 2-day excursion ends.
