Venue Details

Archaeological site of Kabeirion

Lemnos, North Aegean

As part of All of Greece One Culture 2025, the archaeological site of Kabeirion in Lemnos, hosts the performance Vrykolax in Kabeirio, on August 8 & 9.

This lyrical cantata for soprano, wind instruments and accordion unfolds as a musical fairy tale for the vampires of our time – both defeated and invincible. Created by composer Apostolis Koutsogiannis, with texts by poets Marlene Nika and Seme Selami, the performance offers a haunting meditation on myth, fear and the irrational.

Set beneath the August moon, Vrykolax in Kabeirio features the acclaimed soprano Afroditi Patoulidou and the renowned Ventus Ensemble. Sculptural works by visual artist Filippos Vasileiou, inspired by the Renaissance illustrations of Gregorio Dati, add a visual layer to the staging, evoking the many textures of the vampire myth.

Drawing on 19th-century Gothic novellas—Forgiveness by Iakovos Polylas and The Vampire’s Son by Achilleas Paraschos—the performance blends literature, music and visual art to conjure a dreamlike space where folklore meets philosophical reflection. It is both a tribute to the imagination and a quiet resistance to the disenchantment of the modern world.
