From 19 December 2025 to 3 January 2026, the Greek National Opera Ballet presents a new production of the timeless ballet Giselle at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens.
A landmark in ballet history, Giselle tells the story of a young village girl whose love for a nobleman disguised as a peasant ends in heartbreak and tragedy. Often described as “the Hamlet of ballet,” the title role remains one of the greatest challenges for any classical dancer.
This revival of Petipa’s choreography is staged by distinguished choreographers Veronica Villar and Elena Iglesias, with music by Adolphe Adam, including additions by Friedrich Burgmüller and Boris Asafiev. The Greek National Opera Orchestra will be conducted by José Salazar.
