My Greece
A favourite destination is southern Crete. I’ve visited it quite often the last few years because it generously bestows me with relaxation and calm. It is a place that retains its authenticity with honest people and magical natural beauty.
I will never forget
Something truly moving happened to me in Crete while I while travelling on business. I was at a super market and suddenly on the loudspeakers I heard a Cretan song (mantinada) that was written especially for me. It went like this:
For being here we must thank you.
We sing you a song like Cretans true:
Confection’s art no one knows like you
So always high Greece will hold you
For your sweets we thank you from our heart
And for all the knowledge you did impart
Goodbye we will not say then
But only wish we meet some day again.
When I close my eyes
I think of the Libyan Sea early in the morning. When the wind isn’t blowing, the sea takes on a beautiful blue hue and invites the gaze to become lost in its vastness. It’s been bewitching me for years now as if I were laying eyes on it for the first time.

Favourite food
Pita from Sfakia. Because of my work, I have tasted and made countless sweets and desserts, but this Cretan sweet is for me an exquisite, tasty delight. The combination of the thin, delicate pastry and the local cheese and local honey create a uniquely balanced and flavourful result.

Next destination
I’d like to manage to visit the remote spots of Crete both inland and coastal. I’d like to get to know all of this island, talk with its people, taste their dishes and explore the landscapes in the most faraway corners.
