Description

We exit the bay of Platis Gialos and head southeast, crossing about 17 NM to reach the beautiful island of Folegandros. Our first stop is the quiet little port and beach of Agios Georgios, where we swim in green, crystal-clear waters. From there we follow the south coast of the island, passing Ambeli and Livadaki before entering the bay of Vathi, home to the lovely beaches of Agios Nikolaos and Agkali. Here we can enjoy a relaxed swim and a coffee by the sea, taking in the pure waters of Folegandros.

A few miles further along the coast lies Katergo, considered the best beach of Folegandros and one of the top in the Cyclades. Accessible only by boat, it offers stunningly clear water where you can see the seabed even at 10 meters, and a small islet to climb and dive from. After our swim here, we continue past the south coast to the famous Georgitsis cave, where we slowly enter with the boat; you can jump in for a swim and, if you dive and look toward the exit, you’ll see an unforgettable deep blue glow.

We then round the south cape and arrive at Karavostassi, the main port of Folegandros, where we make a longer stop. From here we take the local bus up to the Chora, an amphitheatrically built village often called a “small Santorini” thanks to its dramatic views over the Aegean. It’s the perfect place for a stroll through narrow streets, traditional houses and cozy tavernas. If we have the energy, we can also visit Panagia of Folegandros, the island’s famous hilltop church, and enjoy the panoramic view. Afterwards, we return to Karavostassi, board our boat and head northeast back to Sifnos, finishing our day where we started, at Platis Gialos, full of unforgettable images and memories.

What should I bring with?

Sun protection is a must. Kindly use environmentally friendly sunscreen for the sea environment.
Sunglasses are recommended as the sun is strong.
Swimsuits are also a must, the more the better.
Don’t forget to bring towels.
It’s recommended to bring either a phone or a camera, the latter being the preferred option.

Please Note

Babies must be held on the lap of an adult.
The activity is not appropriate for pregnant women, individuals with fear of speed or water, or children under one year of age.
It is mandatory to remove shoes before getting on the boat.
Adequate shade will be available during stops, but sun exposure is still possible, so it is advisable to bring and use sun protection.
A towel should always be used when lounging on the deck or cushions of the boat.
