Kayaking in Plastira Lake

In the center of Greece is Lake Plastira, a destination for every season of the year. After all, the locals are used to calling it the "lake of the 4 seasons". Whether covered in snow or in bloom, the area knows how to seduce visitors and give them beautiful and unique memories.

The dam that holds back the waters of the Tauropos River was built in 1959 and was the product of the vision of a local politician, Nikolaos Plastiras, who was originally from the neighboring village of Morfovouni. The artificial lake was created on the old plateau of Nevropolis, at an altitude of about 700 m., in order to irrigate the plain of Karditsa, to provide water to the city and also to generate electricity.

We enjoy a beautiful water kayaking trip in its turquoise and calm waters. On a coastal route in its fjords to Nyaga Island, we have the opportunity to gaze at the majestic Agrafa Mountains above the lake and see Herons, Waterfowl, River Ducks and several species of ducks, on the shores Cormorants and Waterbirds. The lake is also home to several species of fish, such as snapper, carp, perch, perch, flatfish, trout, bream and others. At Niaga Island we will take a break for a picnic and we can also swimm in the lake in summer months. Then we will return to the starting point.
