Description
Our story is intertwined with the modern winemaking history of Drama.
As early as the 1970s, Costa Lazaridi deeply believed that his hometown, Drama, had the potential not only to produce wines that would stand out on the international stage but also to establish itself over time as a true “City of Wine.” In 1979, he planted Drama’s first linear vineyard in Xiropotamos, a village on the slopes of Mount Falakro, followed by the region’s only state-of-the-art winery at the time. Starting with an area of 10 hectares, the winery today cultivates 300 hectares of privately owned vineyards in Drama and Attica, planted with the finest Greek and international grape varieties.
The vineyards of Estates Costa Lazaridi are spread across four distinct locations in Drama—Adriani, Kali Vrysi, Katafyto, and Platania—each with its own unique characteristics. This diversity allows for the full expression of Drama’s microclimate and the unique terroir of each area.
In 2000, the first vineyards in Attica were planted on the shores of Lake Marathon, cultivated under organic farming standards since 2005. In 2011, the Wine Museum at the Oenotria Land in Kapandriti opened its doors, offering the most comprehensive presentation of Greek wine’s historical journey.
Our vineyards are certified under the integrated management system “Agro 2-1/2-2,” and our entire production is vinified exclusively at the estate’s state-of-the-art facilities.
