The Hellenistic Theatre of Dion, in Pieria, hosts Whatever Remains Human on 15 and 16 July 2026, as part of All of Greece, One Culture 2026.
Whatever Remains Human blends music, poetry and theatrical storytelling, built around the work and personal archive of musicologist, researcher and composer Markos Dragoumis.
Dragoumis’ piano compositions accompanied by musical settings of poems by Andreas Embirikos and Nanos Valaoritis are being presented for the first time, revealing the many sides of his musical voice – its expressionist edge, impressionist influences, ties to tradition and engagement with modal music. This rare material is woven together with the narration of Filippos and Natalia Dragoumis, who bring memories, letters and diary entries from their father's world to the stage, giving the performance a deeply personal quality.
Drawn to authenticity and sincerity, beyond the constraints of social and artistic convention, Dragoumis offers a liberating source of inspiration for new creation.
Pianist Masa Josillo and performer-composer Fenia Christou approach the material under the direction of Penelope Flouri. The work asks what remains human today – through art, and through the act of coming together.
