The National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) presents a new work by Kasper Bosmans entitled The Fuzzy Gaze, from April 3rd, 2025 to February 15th, 2026, in Athens.
It is a large-scale mural – including horses, stuffed bears and cats in a parade that resembles a circus and a zoo – that explores in broad strokes the history and evolution of the two-way gaze between man and animal in the form of a procession. It brings to the fore the various roles we assign or ascribe to animals – of companion, entertainer, commodity – roles that are shaped to fulfil our utilitarian needs or our desire for spectacle and warmth.
Kasper Bosmans is a Belgian visual artist known for combining elements of folklore, history and symbolism in works that bridge painting, sculpture and installation. His practice often draws on archival material and craft traditions to comment on power structures, identity and the transmission of cultural knowledge. Playful and layered, his work invites viewers to reflect on the shifting meanings we project onto both objects and living beings.
