Thanasis Polykandriotis was born in Athens in 1948.
Son of the folk music master Theodoros Polykandriotis, it didn’t take him long to turn to music as, at the age of 8, he took his first guitar lessons.
As a guitarist, starting in 1961, he participated in some of the young bands of the time (Junior, Trio Esperanto) and three years later his professional career began. He is the composer of many hits performed by great folk music artists.
He has been recognized as one of the best bouzouki virtuosos and has collaborated with a majority of the leading lights in the Greek music industry such as Apostolos Kaldaras, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dionysis Savopoulos, Manos Loizos, Stavros Kougioumtzis, Mimis Plessas, Manos Hatzidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Nikos Mamagakis and Akis Panou, to name but a few.
