In north-western Greece, where the landscape seems to change with the rhythms of the seasons, Florina has emerged as one of the country’s rising destinations. For years, this corner of Western Macedonia remained a well-kept secret. Today, it finds itself at the centre of a new, more conscious kind of travel – a place we ourselves continue to discover, over and over, with every passing season.
Looking out from Agios Panteleimon Hill, there’s a moment that always makes us stop. We gaze over the city, the mountain skyline, the light shifting almost imperceptibly through the day. In winter, the landscape falls almost silent under the snow. In autumn, the forests turn red and gold. In spring, nature returns with a kind of urgency. And in summer, the coolness of this place reveals a quieter, different side of the Greek countryside.
It is precisely this feeling that we try to capture at The Lynx Mountain Resort. The name is no coincidence. The lynx – a rare and elusive animal of the northern forests – symbolises observation, connection with nature, silent presence. A philosophy that runs through the experience we offer.
From here, the journey begins.
Slow travel finds its natural home
The Prespes Lakes are always among the first suggestions we share with our guests. An aquatic landscape of rare beauty, where time seems to slow down. Boating on the lake, birdwatching – with Dalmatian pelicans and herons – cycling and hiking in a constantly changing landscape. We’re always there to help with the organisation of these activities, because we believe that a place reveals itself through lived experience. And somewhere among all of this, a stop at a lakeside taverna completes the experience in the simplest and most authentic way.
Elsewhere, lakes Zazari and Himaditis offer a different, even more serene side of nature, while the forests of the region invite hiking, cycling and open-ended exploration.
Nymfaio is another favourite. A stone-built mountain village, with cobbled streets and a timeless quality. A visit to the Arcturos Bear Sanctuary nearby is, for us, an inseparable part of the experience – a meaningful encounter with rescued brown bears and other protected wildlife of the region.
At the same time, local wineries are opening their doors for tastings and harvest experiences, offering a window into northern Greece's growing winemaking reputation.

The cinematic appeal of Florina
Florina reveals itself in its own distinct way. The Sakoulevas River threading through its centre, the Ottoman-era mansions, a coffee or a meal at one of the small stops along the way – all adding up to a city with its own unhurried rhythm. As the birthplace of internationally acclaimed filmmaker Theodoros Angelopoulos, it is a place deeply connected to the arts – where the landscape and the light seem to compose images of an almost cinematic intensity.
Running through all of this is the gastronomy of the region. Florina peppers, Prespes beans, wild mushrooms, local wines – ingredients that speak directly of the land and its seasons. For us, they are also a source of inspiration, one that finds its way naturally into our Six Lakes Restaurant, where local tradition meets a contemporary, creative cuisine.
And in winter, Florina transforms into a snowy refuge, with nearby ski resorts offering conditions for skiing and snowboarding.
Reconnecting with yourself
At the end of the day, what matters is the sense of return. The moment you leave the day's exertions behind and rediscover your rhythm. A wellness experience, a little stillness, the view shifting with the light. Whether through a moment of relaxation at the White Mist Spa or simply gazing out over the landscape from the rooftop forest jacuzzi, the feeling is the same: reconnection.
In this many-layered experience, The Lynx Mountain Resort is the ideal host – a five-star stay in a region of nature lovers, gastronomy, wine and lakes. Somewhere between a base for exploration and a refuge of quiet luxury – 38 spacious rooms and suites, natural light, and a clear vision of wellbeing at the heart of nature.
An alpine chic aesthetic, delivering on the promise of slow living.

The deeper journey
What matters to us is not simply hospitality, but the way one connects to a place. Through collaborations with local producers, experiences in nature and the routes we recommend daily, Florina doesn't remain an image – it becomes a lived experience.
We want this to be part of a larger journey. The place from which experiences begin – and to which you return to reflect on them, to find calm, to make them your own.
In 2024, this approach was also recognised with the inclusion of The Lynx Mountain Resort among the world's top hotels by National Geographic, in the "Lakes and Mountains" category – a distinction that speaks as much of the destination as of the hotel itself.
Because ultimately, Florina is not simply a winter destination. It is a place that invites you to slow down, to observe and to connect – and we are here to become part of that experience.
