Description

The winter ascent to Skolio peak (2,912m.), the second highest and one of the most imposing peaks of Mt. Olympus and Greece, is definately a unique experience!

In winter time, Mt. Olympus is full of snow even at its lower altitudes, giving us an amazing color contrast with the white of the snow dominating most of the mountain.

For the winter ascent to Skolio peak, we start from the Mountain Ski Race Training Center (KEOACH) of the Greek Army parking lot (1.800m.). (note that up to the camp the road is asphalt of good quality). We pass through the Camp and in a short time we reach the lifts of the Vrysopoules ski resort (1.920m.). Following the tracks we reach Migotzidis pass (2.400m), we are now in the alpine zone of the mountain and enjoy the white landscape.

Right above our heads stands the peak of Agios Antonios! We continue our ascent reaching the Agios Antonios pass, a point with a breathtaking view. We continue up to Skolio peak and after crossing a passable ridge we reach the summit.
