Description
Stop 1: Avdi Square, 9 Giatrakou St
The first stop on our walk is the charming Avdi Square in the lively Metaxourgio.
Stop 2: Mural of man and woman by iNo, 69 Leonidou St
Street artist Alex Martinez discusses the evolving street art scene in Athens. Athenian street art can often be found in the most unexpected of places (much like this example behind a fence).
Stop 3: Bios, 84 Peiraios St
Renowned DJ Vassilis Sevdalis talks about the music scene of Athens and the city's diverse nightlife.
Stop 4: Corner of Salaminos & Psaromiligkou St
Take a small break and enjoy the view of the Acropolis in the distance (and the Keramikos archaeological site immediately in front of you) before continuing towards Psirri, one of the most hip neighborhoods in Athens.
Stop 5: 23 Karaiskaki St
The neighbourhood of Psirri boasts a bustling village vibe brought to life through its bazaars and antique shops, bohemian cafe-bars and restaurants, and some very hip boutique hotels
Stop 6: Color Skates, 5 Protogenous St
Skate shop owner Vassilis Aramvoglou talks about how a skate shop managed to take not just the neighborhood, but also the entire Greek skate scene, to another level.
Stop 7: Linou Soumpasis & SIA, 2 Melanthiou St. (Open Tuesday - Sunday)
Restaurateur Myrsini Linou talks about the past and present of Greek gastronomy.
Stop 8: Athens Central Market (Varvakios), Athinas St
Diane Alexandre, a Parisian artist living in Athens, shares her experiences of the city she now calls home while walking us through the heart of the food market zone.
Stop 9: Kotzia Square, 63 Athinas St
This central Athens square retains much of its 19th-century architecture, including the City Hall of the Municipality of Athens and the National Bank of Greece building.
Stop 10: Omonia Square
Now go back to 2004 and listen to how Athenians celebrated one of the nation’s biggest sporting achievements in this very square.
