Capture the essence of Athens through our Plein Air Painting Workshop. This unique experience invites you to create a personal piece of art by observing the city's urban and natural settings. Led by renowned artist Stathis Petropoulos and hosted by Trekking Hellas Athens, the workshop combines self-discovery with artistic exploration.

Choose between painting from selected iconic viewpoints of Athens or taking a short hike to Philoppapos Hill, where ancient Greek antiquities, Byzantine churches, and timeless landscapes await. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, Stathis will guide you in capturing the beauty of blue skies, Mediterranean nature, and historic sites.

Workshop Schedule

1st Section - 30 minutes

• Meet and Greet: 10-15 minutes

• Introduction Lecture and Interactive Talk: 15-20 minutes

Discuss the subject to be painted or drawn during the workshop.

2nd Section - 45 minutes to 1 hour

• Painting/Drawing Demonstration: 45-60 minutes

Demonstration by the instructor on the chosen subject.

3rd Section - 1 to 1.5 hours

• Participants Painting/Drawing: 1-1.5 hours

Participants are called to paint/draw their chosen subject, under the instructor's supervision and direction


Materials provided to participants

• Acrylic paint, Pencils, Charcoal (choice of one)

• Palettes

• Field easels

• Water cups

• Paper towels

• Aprons

• Small canvases or paper

Additional Information

The Artist

Born in Athens, Greece, in 1972, Stathis Petropoulos has been passionate about art since childhood. He studied at the prestigious Art Center College of Design and earned a degree in industrial design from Syracuse University. He moved to Los Angeles, working as a designer for two years and later designing furniture and interiors for architecture firms. Stathis then shifted his focus to illustration, creating award-winning work for the children's publishing market. In 2022, his debut picture book, Brown and Friends, was published by a leading Greek publisher. His current work explores the Greek landscape, urban scenes of Athens, and still life painting.
