Description

Discover the highlights of Athens, along with the city’s best-kept secrets, on this engaging 4-hour walking tour through the historic center. This half-day adventure is perfect for travelers who want to experience the authentic atmosphere of the city while enjoying the flexibility of a relaxed and personalized exploration.

Begin at Syntagma Square & the Hellenic Parliament, the heart of modern Athens and witness the Changing of the Guard, performed by the Evzones in their traditional uniform. Stroll through the National Garden before continuing to the Panathenaic Stadium, where you'll discover its fascinating history and its unique connection to the revival of the modern Olympic Games. From there, continue to Hadrian's Arch, the monumental gateway that once marked the boundary between ancient Athens and the Roman city developed under Emperor Hadrian. A short walk brings you to the elegant Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, marking the entrance to the picturesque Plaka district — from here begins one of the most beautiful walking routes in Athens.

Your journey through Plaka begins, Athens’ picturesque old town, where narrow streets, neoclassical houses and charming little squares reveal the timeless character of the city.

From there, continue to Anafiotika, one of Athens’ most enchanting hidden neighborhoods, tucked away beneath the Acropolis, known for its whitewashed houses and quiet alleyways that resemble a small Cycladic village in the heart of Athens.

Continue to the remarkable Tower of the Winds, an ancient marble clocktower located in the Roman Agora, before walking to the lively square of Monastiraki, famous for its vibrant atmosphere, street life and stunning views of the Acropolis.

The tour also includes a stop at Hadrian’s Library, a magnificent Roman complex built by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, followed by a visit to the Ancient Agora, the political and social center of ancient Athens where philosophers such as Socrates once gathered.

Learn about Athens through engaging commentary from your guide, who will share stories, historical insights, and local tips throughout the walk.

Please note that your guide is not a licensed guide and therefore cannot accompany you inside archaeological monuments, but will provide valuable explanations from outside to enhance your visit.

This tour offers a perfect introduction to Athens, combining iconic landmarks, hidden corners, and fascinating stories that bring the city’s rich history to life.
