The inner courtyard (20 minutes): It is hard to believe that this magnificent courtyard once hosted the horse stables and the kitchen. Let’s travel back in time to learn how the Knights Hospitallers siege-proofed the palace and why statues of Roman senators adorn the place. Also, have a closer look at the modern restoration works and discover what went right or horribly wrong. 

The Room with the Ribbed Vault (15 minutes): Decorated with an early Christian mosaic pavement of birds, trees, and vases originating from Kos and equipped with sixteenth-century furniture, this room used to be the office of Cesare Maria De Vecchi. De Vecchi was the one who conceived of the Palace’s restoration program. This humble room became his center of operations. Listen to our stories and learn how the architect Vittorio Mesturino restored the grandeur of the Palace and the fame of the knights. 

The Room with the Nine Muses (15 minutes): The most beautiful room of the Palace, where you can admire a seventeenth-century tapestry from Flandres, owes its name to a fresco depicting the nine muses. Who were these nine elegant ladies? Learn their story, their quarrel with Pierus, a King of Macedonia, and whether you can memorize their names. Listen to our stories and accept the challenge.
