Iconography 2.0: Cultural Project of Tradition and Innovation NextGenerationTradition

As part of All of Greece One Culture 2025, the Holy Monastery of Our Lady of Akrotiri and Saint John the Theologian in Toplou, Sitia, Crete, will host the art installation Iconography 2.0: Cultural Project of Tradition and Innovation – NextGenerationTradition on August 23 and 24

Iconography 2.0 is an ambitious cultural project that reimagines the relationship between traditional iconography, technology, contemporary art and faith. The final installation transforms the spaces of the historic monastery into a hybrid environment of light, image and sound – merging the physical with the digital in a multi-sensory experience that bridges past and present.

Byzantine music and the natural soundscape of Crete are woven together with modern compositions and poetic texts, forming an immersive backdrop to the visual artworks created during the three-day artistic and educational programme leading up to the event. This polyphonic dialogue between sound, image and word reflects a dynamic meeting of tradition and innovation, where art becomes a shared language of memory, spirituality, aesthetics and collectiveness.

Workshops and tours (August 20–22 and 25–27) complement the main event, offering visitors deeper engagement with local culture and the creative process.

Ticket Details

• As part of the event, workshops will be held in Crete (August 20-22), alongside tours, experiential research, and educational tourism (August 25-27).
• The event is offered free of charge by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
