The landmark monuments of Central Greece

The standout cultural attraction in Central Greece is Delphi, considered the navel of the world by the ancient Greeks. Ancient Delphi – with the temple of Apollo, the Castalia Fountain and the adjacent museum – is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.

Meanwhile, heroic Thermopylae, a stone’s throw from Kamena Vourla, reminds us of the sacrifice made by Leonidas and his 300 Spartans.

In Viotia, the Byzantine monastery of Osios Loukas, with its renowned mosaics, is another UNESCO World Heritage site. And in Evritania, you will find the monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa, with its famed icon of the Virgin Mary that attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.

A nature lover’s escape, from mountain to sea

Mt Parnassos, known as the “Mountain of the Light” and a renowned national park in Greece, is home to thick forests of black pine and Kefalonian fir and dozens of trails, as well as the famous Corycian Cave, where the Nymphs and the Greek god Pan were worshipped during antiquity.

And speaking of wonders, make sure you leave time to explore Evia, an island of outstanding beauty with forests, waterfalls and stunning beaches connected to the mainland by the bridge of Chalkida. Meanwhile, in Evritania, you can visit the Panta Vrehei (‘Always raining’) Gorge, a magical place full of lakes, waterfalls, caves and dense vegetation.
