On 18 September 2025, the renowned Béjart Ballet Lausanne will honour Mikis Theodorakis at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in the heart of Athens, marking the 100th anniversary of the legendary Greek composer’s birth.
Founded by the influential French choreographer Maurice Béjart, Béjart Ballet Lausanne is one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary ballet companies. Known for pushing the boundaries of classical dance, Béjart became famous for his bold, theatrical productions and for choreographing to music by composers as diverse as Stravinsky, Queen and Theodorakis himself. A committed philhellene, Béjart shared a close personal friendship with Theodorakis, which is reflected in the emotional depth and authenticity of 7 Greek Dances – the centrepiece of this tribute. Inspired by the traditional steps and rhythms of Greek folk dances, the piece captures the spirit of Theodorakis’ music and the cultural richness it expresses.
The second part of the show will take you on a journey through Béjart's repertoire entitled Béjart et nous – a chance to experience the breadth of the choreographer’s legacy.
All proceeds will be donated to the Greek non-profit organisation Mazi gia to Paidi, which supports children and young people facing poverty, disability, illness or abuse.
