As part of All of Greece One Culture 2025, the Archaeological Site of Akrotiri in Santorini will host the theatrical performance Sliding Slalom / Stroggyli on August 5 and 6.
Inspired by Nitsa Tzortzoglou’s novel When the Earth is Enraged, this site-specific performance invites audiences on a physical and emotional journey through the layered history of Santorini. Four actors guide spectators through a “slalom” of four interconnected eras: the prehistoric city of Stroggyli, the seven-year excavation period from 1967 to 1974, the island in 1978, and contemporary Santorini.
Performed within the archaeological site, the narrative weaves together human stories and natural upheaval, revealing the traces left by both. Audience members become active participants, moving through the space and following the thread of a mysterious necklace, as history unfolds around them not as static memory but as a living, evolving presence.
The experience culminates in a creative writing contest, where spectators are invited to become storytellers themselves. Selected stories will be published in a collective volume, offering a new layer to the ever-unfolding narrative of Akrotiri and its place in the human imagination.
