Venue Details

Mycenaean Acropolis of Saint Andrew (Aghios Andreas)

Sifnos, Cyclades

As part of All of Greece One Culture 2025, the Mycenaean Acropolis of Agios Andreas in Sifnos will host the theatre performance The Glass Mountains and the Ivory Plains on July 26 and 27.

Blending storytelling, music, live painting and physical theatre, this original production brings to life a folk tale from the Cyclades through contemporary performance techniques and a deep connection to oral tradition. At its heart is a love story between a young shepherd and an August fairy. When she vanishes with their child, the shepherd embarks on a journey of longing and transformation, guided by the four winds through the metaphorical landscapes of glass mountains and ivory plains – symbols of growth, loss and hope.

The Mycenaean Acropolis becomes a living stage for this modern fairy tale, offering a multi-sensory experience that resonates across generations. Alongside the main performance, accompanying activities include traditional music performed by a local instrumentalist, storytelling sessions with members of a local amateur theatre group, and the visual arts workshop Zografigisi, inspired by the live painting elements featured in the show. The result is an immersive encounter with folk imagination, memory and the enduring magic of the Cycladic landscape.
