From Sifnos: Half-day boat trip to Poliegos

We depart from the dock of Platis Gialos marina, heading southwest into the strait of Kitriani–Sifnos. After about 8 NM and 25 minutes, we reach the stunning island of Poliegos. Its name comes from the Greek words poly (many) and aiga (goat), as the only inhabitants of this island are its many wild goats.

If conditions allow, our first stop is the open-roof cave of Fanara, famous for its crystal-clear blue water and colorful volcanic walls. You can swim, explore, or take amazing photos from the rock in the middle of the cave. We then continue south into the bay of Faros, where we admire the much-photographed lighthouse built in 1898 and still operating today. We anchor here for about 45 minutes to swim in turquoise waters and visit the small lake that attracts wild goats — and if you have fruit or snacks, they’ll happily accept a treat.

Next, we head to the southern tip of Poliegos, passing the rock that resembles an Indian totem. As we turn southwest, the sea often becomes calm and glassy, sheltered from the north winds. We anchor in a magical, secluded bay ideal for snorkeling, staying for at least another 45 minutes.

Continuing towards Kalogeroi bay, we approach an area of white and pink pebbles and see the ruins of old mines. Heading west, we encounter rock formations shaped like sailboats and enter sea caves to admire the vivid waters. We then stop at Poliegos beach for about 20 minutes, where the water is so turquoise and clear it feels like swimming in a natural pool.

Just 200 meters further lies Blue Bay, another spectacular spot — perhaps the most beautiful on the island. We anchor for another 20 minutes before heading to our final stop, Myrsini beach. This white-sand bay is a favorite among luxury yachts, thanks to its stunning waters and serene setting, and we stay for an additional 20 minutes.

We then set course northeast back to Sifnos, returning to Platis Gialos and concluding an unforgettable day around magical Poliegos.
