A full-day boat trip from Sifnos to truly spectacular Milos, with Kleftiko caves and Sarakiniko

Σύντομη περιγραφή

We depart from the dock of Platis Gialos, head southwest and enter the strait of Kitriani-Sifnos. Then we change course and head north west and cruise the strait of Kimolos-Milos and see the port of Pollonias (Apollonia) and we arrive at the small islets Kalogiroi. There, we see the magnificent rocks which form big hexagon prisms. We make a short stop and then cruise towards the complex of Glaronisia. Now we head southwest heading to the bay of Papafragas. It is an impressive place that resembles a huge natural swimming pool, an enormous cave carved out of the cliff's side. There is also a tiny strip of sand that forms the beach. We can snorkel and enjoy the site and this unique geological phenomenon.

After Papafragas and Mitikas we head southwest and arrive at the Navagio (Shipwreck). We make a stop and can swim in deep waters and see at approximately 8 – 10 meters below surface level an old shipwreck. We can there see fish swimming in groups. Our next stop is the magnificent beach of Sarakiniko, one of the most photographed landscapes of Milos and Cyclades. We can spend much time there swimming in deep waters, dive off the tall, greyish - white cliffs that can have amazing shapes often compared to a moonscape and enjoy the famous fiords. It is now time to change course and go a bit to the north and northwest towards the cape of Kabanes of Milos and arrive at Mandrakia. We can stay there and admire the rock formations with the hundreds of small creeks, reefs and rocks that barely make it out of the sea surface and of course have a beer at Periklis, the famous tavern of the area. Always heading west, we cruise along the coast of Milos and arrive at the traditional fishermen’s village of Fyropotamos with the traditional houses painted in the colors of the Aegean Sea and the traditional syrmata houses made to shelter the fish boats in the winter. The colors of rocky formations are spectacular and create a perfect contrast against the white sand. After Fyropotamos we head west and pass the twin islets (Akrathi and Arkadi) that “guard” the port of Adamantas. We soon reach the northwest side of Milos and cape Vani.

We then change course and head southwest cruising along the west coasts of Milos with the bays and beaches and we soon reach the southwest end and the cave of Sykia. If the weather allows us, we can enter. The cave of Sykia does not have a roof, the sunbeams come into the cave and make the waters shine. Also we can see a small beach. We can stop and swim in the emerald waters and see the corals that take different colors depending on the sunbeams that light them. After the cave we head more south and reach cape Psalis. Now we change course and head to the famous Kleftiko, known as “The Meteora Rocks of the Sea”. This is one of the most photographed landscapes and is famous not just in Greece but worldwide. We can enjoy the group of grey-white rocks of strange shapes and formations, with caves and cavities. A volcanic site with turquoise waters.

After Kleftiko, we continue East and continue our journey to see the tens of small beaches and bays such as Gerontas, Firiplaka, Agios Sostis, Provatas, and Palaiochori. Finally, we arrive at the amazing beach of Gerakas, the only beach with the unique grey and pink sand that flows like a waterfall from the mountain and the small cavities with hot spring waters from the volcano of Milos. It is really worth swimming in the amazing blue waters of Gerakas. We stay on course and continue east until we arrive at the southeastern cape of Milos, called Spathi, and then arrive at the famous Sulphur mines, our last stop in Milos. Here we can visit the old mine which was operating until the mid-1950s. We can also see the hot rocks to the north side and see the hot red water coming out between the rocks.

We start our return to Sifnos, staying on a north east course and after about 15 nautical miles we start entering the strait of Kitriani and approach Platis Gialos.

After approximately 22 NM heading northwest we arrive at Platis Gialos.
