Marathon became the place of a legendary “Battle”; the victory of Athenians over the Persians in 490B.C and the final resting place of the 192 soldiers who died there. Marathon gave birth to a Race that inspires the world. The Marathon Race! Your tour-guide will provide information about this historically significant event, as well as the symbolism of the Olympic Marathon Race and the Athens Authentic Marathon.
Then you will visit the isolated Archaeological Site of Ramnous, which is one of the well-preserved ancient site in Attica. Discover the Temple of Nemesis and Thetis and the Ramnous fortress where you can keep an eye on the most important sea passages as the Ancient Athenians’ did. After you lunch you can visit either the artificial Marathon Lake with the impressive marble dam or the Monastery of Saint Efraim where his Holy Relic was miraculously found some decades ago. In between stops, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to shop, eat, indulge and get a taste of the local culture.
