About the author

Stathis Kalyvas, an international Greek and Gladstone Professor of Government and fellow of All Souls College at Oxford, has never hidden his love for the neighbourhoods of downtown Athens where he grew up. His academic career led him to America, where he lived for many years, but in 2007 he chose to return to Athens and once again live in the city centre, surrounded by everything he loves there: the constant traffic on the streets, the vibrancy, the smells, the sounds, the habits, the feeling of the community and the activities of the city's commercial zone.
